A 5-part online herbal adaptogens seminar in March 2023

Chronic stress is a major problem in our society. It is one of the leading causative factors for cardiovascular disease, chronic fatigue syndrome, autoimmunity and gastrointestinal dysfunction. Much of this is due to dysregulation of the neuroendocrine stress response – i.e., the hypothalamic-pituitary adrenal (HPA) axis. Consistent activation of the sympathetic (stress) nervous system will not only cause overstimulation in areas of the brain but will also impede normal hormonal secretion, immune function and gastrointestinal activation. Over time, this will lead to concerning conditions. Thus, it is vital to support individuals who are dealing with chronic stress and recovering from trauma.

Adaptogens include a class of herbs shown to support the HPA axis. Their role is to moderate the stress response via providing physiological support with current stressors and in recovery from prolonged stress or trauma. This seminar will discuss the relationship between adaptogens and the human stress response, the individual roles played by these specific herbs, and how they can be properly integrated into a clinical nutrition practice.

Your guide for this adaptogen seminar is Megan Grover. Megan is a long-time instructor at Nutrition Therapy Institute, currently teaching a variety of their online courses. She has a Master of Medical Science in Human Nutrition from the University of Sheffield in England. Megan has spent much of her career teaching in higher education and working individually with those recovering from stress. She is passionate about helping people understand the structure and function of their bodies and what it requires to thrive. Her love for using herbs as a complement to nutrition protocols came from her training at Herbalism Roots in Denver, CO and since then she has continued to primarily focus on adaptogens and their clinical use for imbalanced HPA axis dysfunction.  Find her on Instagram at @ladyadaptogen
